Meet Katherine

“Opera inherently fights for and displays the beauty of the human condition, rendering it to be more than just an audio-visual experience, but a spiritual one”

Drawing from the past, present, and future, Katherine’s limitless approach to character interpretation and performance positions herself as one of the most exciting up and coming sopranos in the country. Always seeking beauty in the imperfection of human nature, her performances span a vast array of composers and time periods, demonstrating opera’s transcendence of the individual in favor of the timeless, collective experience.

This season, Katherine is featured as a studio artist Florida Grand Opera, portraying the role of Nurse in their production of A Streetcar Named Desire. She made her professional debut last summer with Central City Opera, performing the role of Young Miss Snow in Carousel. During her tenure in with Indiana University Opera Theater, she was seen singing Meg (Little Women) and Annina (La Traviata). Other notable roles include Prince (The Little Prince), Belinda (Dido and Aeneas), Nina (Chérubin), and Sister Genovieffa (Suor Angelica). Finding success in competitions, Katherine is a two time District winner of the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition. In 2021, she was a finalist of the James Toland Vocal Competition and was an Incentive Award winner from the SAS Performing Arts Competition in 2020.

In addition to opera, Katherine is an avid supporter and performer of early music. While a student at the Peabody Conservatory, she was an active member of the Peabody Renaissance Ensemble. In 2019, she was a featured soloist with the group at the Conciertos de la Villa de Santo Domingo festival in the Dominican Republic, which sought to bring the music of the new world back to its origins. She also was a soloist for the Washington Bach Consort’s 40th anniversary celebration.

Katherine holds a Masters degree in Voice from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, a Bachelors in Voice with a concentration in Early Music from the Peabody Conservatory of Music, and a Bachelors of Arts with Honors in French from the Johns Hopkins University.
